So after a busy few days in Singapore today was a slower start. The day started with another recommendation from Nor, Two Men Bagel House. Eva and I both ordered the B.O.C.A bagel which had avocado, egg, tomato and feta cheese. It was absolutely delicious. Avocado is one of the few foods that you just don’t find much of in Asia. When I was in Taman Negara my guide for the trek was actually puzzled as to why people in the West eat it. But it really was a delicious treat.
After this I went to the botanical gardens. This was really beautiful. Lots of green open space and not a skyscraper in sight. They also had an orchid garden. I love orchids. In a weird way they remind me of home because my dad is a huge fan and we always have a collection around the house. They were stunning. So many colours and variations. This was actually my favourite thing that i have done in Singapore. It was just so beautiful.
After this I went to look around little India. I must admit I think this is one of my favourite parts of Singapore. It feels completely different, it is no longer sterile and grey but instead full of colour and people interacting in the streets... if it wasn’t for the sky rise buildings in the distance you would feel right in India. The smells, colours and just general noise was incredibly similar. The traffic was backing up as cars were trying to fit into small spaces and down roads with very little space. I loved it.
Whilst in little India I saw the house of Tan Teng Niah which is the last remaining Chinese villa in little India. It was built in 1900 before being restored in the 1980’s. It is super picturesque.
I also paid a visit to the Sri Veeramakaliamman temple which is a Hindu temple built in 1881 and dedicated to the Hindu goddess Kali.
I also noticed as I was wondering there was more beautiful street art. Which obviously I loved because who doesn’t want to see a cow riding a bike!
After I fancied an ice cream and remembered another Nor recommendation. I went to Lickity Ice cream and waffles and treated myself to a Mocha, biscuit and chocolate chip ice cream, that’s right all three in one scoop. It was incredible!
With a happy stomach of ice cream I headed to something I was really looking forward to... the Singapore Flyer. This is the second largest Ferris wheel in the world. It is 165m tall and moves at 14.4m per minute. The 30 minute ride was pretty incredible. I decided to go just before sunset so that I could see the city during the day and at night (top tip for backpackers). I loved it and it was well worth the money!
For dinner I went to meet Nor who has become an awesome friend over the last week! It Was my final dinner in Singapore and we went to East Coast Food Village. We tucked into a feast of chicken wings, satay (beef and chicken) as well as oyster omelette with a sugar cane drink. It was the perfect final meal in Singapore!
