Bikinis, boat parties and first dates! 27.01.20- 02.02.20


In my effort to keep people updated more with my life I am going to try and write at least one post a week. No promises but here is my summary of the last week!

Monday was a public holiday here in Australia which could mean only one thing... brunch and a day at the beach! Amanda and I decided to head on the ferry to Watson’s bay! Shamefully this is the first time that I had been on the ferry! It was absolutely beautiful seeing the city from the boat. The Sydney skyline is actually pretty spectacular. 


We arrived at Watson bay and headed to the Watson bay hotel for a spot of brunch. It was delicious. Obviously it would not be brunch without cocktails.



It was a day of sitting on the beach and soaking up the sun. Whilst we were there I had a hinge message. For those not in the know, hinge is a dating app. I haven’t dated anyone since leaving the UK but thought it would be fun whilst I am relatively settled in sydney. The message was from a guy called Dan, asking if I was around that night for a drink... I was so I thought why not. He suggested a wine bar I hadn’t tried so after the beach I went to meet him. He was so funny, kind and intelligent. Too many wines later and we agreed to see each other later that week.

The rest of the week was kind of a blur. It was mainly work. After work I would come back to the hostel and chat with my roommates. Nothing too exceptional but still a nice week.

Friday night rolled round and I had a second date with Dan. I’d suggested the observatory which neither of us had been to yet. We started in el Camino with some awesome frozen margaritas. Those things really pack a punch. By the time we got to the observatory I was suitably intoxicated. We were shown some beautiful stars, constellations, moons and even Jupiter. 

On Sunday I was seriously excited. It was the day of the work boat trip. This was incredible! We sailed around the harbour before stopping off at a beautiful spot to have some time in the sea! It was absolutely stunning.

An Update

Things over the last week have developed and happened really quickly. I am still trying to process how I feel. I will get round to calling everyone and talking to everyone but right now I am selfishly putting myself and my well-being (both mentally and physically first). On Tuesday I was informed I no longer had my job in Australia. This was the start of the collapse of my dream. A lot of people were in the same position and with the job market in Australia becoming more and more dire each day, thousands of people including Australians loosing their jobs, businesses shutting left right and centre as well as the daily reports that flights out of Australia were shutting down I was left with one option. I had to leave. At the time this did not feel like a choice. I knew I didn’t have the financial ability to support myself for the next 6 months, which is potentially how long it would have taken to restore any normality. Day 2- Don’t look the moneys in the eyes

An early train this morning meant a 5:30 wake up call. Feeling very groggy and tired we caught the train from Delhi to Agra. The train was pretty comfortable and actually on time! Due to the nippy morning even my bobble hat got some use! On the train we were served a breakfast which consisted of a biscuit, some vegetable croquet (we didn’t know the name of these however this is as similar as it gets back home). We also got some bread and lemon juice. It was basic but it filled the hole. The first stop in Agra was the Agra Fort. This was built in the late 1500s and is pretty substantial in size coming in at around 94 acres. The fort has been home to many emperors until 1638 when the capital of India moved from Agra to Delhi. It is absolutely beautiful with loads of detailed carvings and incredible architecture. It also  had  some pretty superb views of the Taj Mahal. We even spotted a monkey too! We were told under no circumstances to look them in...
