Today was a busy day. The first stop was at the Butterfly farm. Here there were a vast array of some really beautiful butterflies and gorgeous smelling flowers.
One of the types of butterfly’s were the Rajah Brooke’s Birdwing, this is the national butterfly of Malaysia. They are very easily distinguishable as they have these beautiful electric green teeth shaped marks on their wings. The females also have white on the end of their wings. They were also pretty big!
The second stop was the Bee farm. Here they make honey from the bees that use the onsite hives. There were two main types of honey made here. One was from the normal bees. The second was from a stingless bee which is really small. The honey was delicious, the honey from the stingless bee was also a little bitter but still really nice.
The third stop was to the Boh tea plantation. This plantation was founded in 1929 by a scottsman called J.A.Russel. The plantation covers a total of 234 hectares and produces 600,000kg of tea per annum. We had a quick tour around the factory before going to the onsite tea shop where I tucked into a feast of tea, sausage roll and strawberry tea cheesecake. It was all pretty delicious with the tea being the star of the show.
Whilst at the tea plantation we also enjoyed the views which were pretty stunning.
Next was the Rose gardens. These were beautifully done and had hundreds of species of roses of all colours and varieties. They also had some other really stunning flowers.
The penultimate stop of the day was to the Strawberry farm. This is the only place in Malaysia where the temperature allows for strawberry growing. Also unlike the UK strawberries can be grown all year round. We tried a strawberry juice which was nice!
The last stop was to Sam Poh temple, this was built in 1972 and is the 4th largest Buddhist temple in Malaysia. It was decorated beautifully and had some amazing colours.
Overall it was a pretty incredible and beautiful day in the Cameron Highlands.
