Day 102
Today I didn’t do anything really interesting, my day consisted of
- having a lie in
- Getting breakfast
- Dropping off laundry
- Booking my bus ticket
- Reading some of my book
- Listening to some music
- Eating some more
- Picking up my laundry- unfortunately they lost my microfibre towel, it is quite upsetting as a traveller to loose things. This was no exception.
- Researching Indonesia
The most eventful part of my day was that I got stung by a bee. It was actually more painful then I remember.
Apart from the bee and the towel It was perfect. I have a slight case of traveller burn out after the last week of constant activity. I also have some pretty awful blisters on my feet from diving which haven’t had a chance to heal due to the diving and trekking so I wanted a day of no shoes to allow them to heal.
Day 103
Today I left Taman Negara, I am actually quite pleased to be leaving. If you aren’t trekking there is actually very little to do in Taman Negara. I must admit today I am not feeling 100%, I had a great nights sleep but I am feeling drained still. It is days like this where I consider going home but I am hoping like the times before this feeling will pass. My research yesterday made me very excited for Indonesia. I am not sure how I feel about Australia, the closer it gets the less I want to settle somewhere, it feels very permanent. The beauty of travelling is that it is not permanent. You sort of float from place to place without responsibility, you don’t owe anyone anything and there are no expectations on you. The idea of getting back into work scares me. Whilst travelling I have really worked on being more relaxed and not being a control freak. I feel like I have mastered it but the idea of working is almost like a trigger. I cared way to much about my work in the UK, I gave up things specifically for work, I pushed myself and always gave everything I had to it. That’s not necessarily healthy and I’m hoping that I can be more balanced in work in the future but I still think my natural reaction will be to give everything I have and to try to be the best I can be. When travelling in India someone was telling me about a book they had read where it talked about the human body being a battery and if you drain the battery you have nothing left to give. I must admit that book is still in my iBooks to read. I actually thought I would have more reading time abroad but it hasn’t worked out that way so far, there is always something else to see or someone new to talk to. For now I’m just not going to think about Australia, just look forward to picking strawberries and drinking tea in the Cameron highlands.
It was about a 6 hour journey to Cameron highlands. Most of the time I slept. Upon arrival in Cameron Highlands I was shocked how English all the architecture is. The Cameron highlands were named after an explorer and geoligist called William Cameron who was commissioned by the colonial government to map out the Pahang-Perak boarder area in 1885. In 1925 they started to grow tea here and this is what it is most well known for. Cameron highlands has a noticeably colder climate (about 10 degrees) colder than other areas in Malaysia. After dropping my bag at the hostel I decided to get some tea and cake (the tea was the best that I have had in a long time) and the cake (carrot and walnut) was equally delicious.
After having a little stroll in the evening I decided to check out a highly rated Indian restaurant called ‘Singh Chapati’ I had the butter paneer and rice with a chapati. It was delicious.
