Day 58
Today started with a visit to a local market where locals go to buy all their food. They had everything from fruit, vegetables and meat to household items like soap.
I tried jackfruit for the first time. It tasted like apple and peach with a hard mango texture. It was delicious.
I then tried something not so delicious... a slow worm.
After this we drove to another waterfall. The waterfall was called Mok Fah. These are my new favourite things. This was so refreshing and cool in the Thai heat.
We trekked through the jungle for about 3 hours. It was exhausting but so beautiful. There was a lot of up and down. It was very slippery.
We arrived at the small village of Mae Jok. It is a traditional village with 50 families and about 250 people. They have their own language and culture
We had a great evening eating nice food and sitting around the campfire.
Day 59-
Today we set off on a longer 4 hour trek. It was about 35 degrees and the route was very open. Difficult is an understatement.
We eventually arrived at the village called Pa Khao Lam and immediately headed to the river for a swim. I cannot describe how great the cool water was!
After a c down swim we learnt how to make baskets out of bamboo. I must admit... my team were pros. Our basket turned out great.
Before dinner we decided to take a trip to the local school. This is sponsored by the princess and has a total of 89 pupils. This school has great facilities and is free up until the age of 12. It really gives the local children an opportunity to have more options. There are even boarding facilities for children the next village over which is about a 2 hour walk to stay during the week.
In the evening we played some games. One of which consisted of having your face drawn on with charcoal every time you didn’t do what you were supposed to. We were covered...
Overall, I have loved this homestay. The villages have been beautiful.
