Today was another quite chilled day.
We started with a brief walk to look at a Buddhist temple. It was a really beautiful temple right in the centre of the town.
The monks at this temple alongside other artists make carvings out of aluminium which they sell to the general public and use for the temple. The pieces were stunning and quite elaborate.
By this point the temperature had risen to around 34 degrees and we opted to not go and see anymore temples. Instead we took a pick up truck bus to the shopping centre. This was a standard western shopping centre with all the sports brands and Starbucks. It was so strange being in this environment. It was very different to the local markets we have become accustomed to.
After this we decided to head back to the hotel to utilise the swimming pool.
In the evening we went to a different street market where I tried a local dish- chicken Khao Soi. It was absolutely delicious.
I also tried some durian. This is an incredibly smelly fruit. So smelly that it is banned from any air conditioned room and especially aeroplanes. It is smelly because when it is opened out of the spikey outside shell all the gases stored inside are released. Once it has been opened however the flesh is not smelly at all. It was a really interesting fruit. It had the consistency of an avocado but tasted like a duller mango. It was strange but quite delicious.
After dinner we headed back to the hotel so that we could pack our small daypack. We are off trekking through the Forrest for the next two and a half days. It is supposed to be very hot so please say a prayer for us!
