Day 159-177 Week 2 and 3

Day 159- Saturday
This is a pretty awesome job... we walked into the pen to feed some calf’s and saw that one of the sheep had given birth to two healthy looking lambs. She was doing such a good job looking after them. This is really quite magical to watch!

Day 170- Monday
Anyone ever sheared a sheep?

Today was sheep shearing day so I went along to help sort the wool. I basically had to stand at a spinning table and take off any edges from the wool or any stains. This sounds simple but it was not so easy... the burs in the wool have a great ability to cut up your hands. It was hard work and very fast paced. If you slowed down then there would be a backlog of wool... not ideal. I’m going to soak my hands in disinfectant and pray for the best. But here is Hannah standing in a pack of wool to condense it...

Day 171- Tuesday
Alan has returned.

Day 172- Wednesday
The goat has got to go... washed my clothes and put them out to dry before he rips them all off.

Day 174- Friday

Day 176- Sunday
I am truly done. My batteries are empty. The hardest thing about the farm is not the incredibly long days or the physical work. It is not the feeling dirty or cold. Instead it is
the living, working, sleeping, eating with each other. I am with 5 other people who are lovely but damn, I miss my own space. We sleep in one room and eat/ relax in another room. It is too much. Today I am tired of hearing the same voices, tired of comments which come from frustration, tired of other people who need to have the last word. I am just tired. Farm life has really cracked me today.

In other news after relentless harassment we moved Alan to a nice enclosed pen!

Day 177- Goodbye Anu
So today on the farm it was the day Anu left. Anu has been working at the farm for about 6 months and has been a great support to me. Always making me laugh she is one of the funniest people I know and teaching me so much about farm life! It’s sad when someone leaves because as mentioned in yesterday’s post we live, work and breathe together every day and although your own space is nice it also becomes a family dynamic.

An Update

Things over the last week have developed and happened really quickly. I am still trying to process how I feel. I will get round to calling everyone and talking to everyone but right now I am selfishly putting myself and my well-being (both mentally and physically first). On Tuesday I was informed I no longer had my job in Australia. This was the start of the collapse of my dream. A lot of people were in the same position and with the job market in Australia becoming more and more dire each day, thousands of people including Australians loosing their jobs, businesses shutting left right and centre as well as the daily reports that flights out of Australia were shutting down I was left with one option. I had to leave. At the time this did not feel like a choice. I knew I didn’t have the financial ability to support myself for the next 6 months, which is potentially how long it would have taken to restore any normality. I had enough money in Australia to buy a ticket home, which...

Bikinis, boat parties and first dates! 27.01.20- 02.02.20

In my effort to keep people updated more with my life I am going to try and write at least one post a week. No promises but here is my summary of the last week! Monday was a public holiday here in Australia which could mean only one thing... brunch and a day at the beach! Amanda and I decided to head on the ferry to Watson’s bay! Shamefully this is the first time that I had been on the ferry! It was absolutely beautiful seeing the city from the boat. The Sydney skyline is actually pretty spectacular.  We arrived at Watson bay and headed to the Watson bay hotel for a spot of brunch. It was delicious. Obviously it would not be brunch without cocktails. It was a day of sitting on the beach and soaking up the sun. Whilst we were there I had a hinge message. For those not in the know, hinge is a dating app. I haven’t dated anyone since leaving the UK but thought it would be fun whilst I am relatively settled in sydney. The message was from a guy called Dan, as...

Day 2- Don’t look the moneys in the eyes

An early train this morning meant a 5:30 wake up call. Feeling very groggy and tired we caught the train from Delhi to Agra. The train was pretty comfortable and actually on time! Due to the nippy morning even my bobble hat got some use! On the train we were served a breakfast which consisted of a biscuit, some vegetable croquet (we didn’t know the name of these however this is as similar as it gets back home). We also got some bread and lemon juice. It was basic but it filled the hole. The first stop in Agra was the Agra Fort. This was built in the late 1500s and is pretty substantial in size coming in at around 94 acres. The fort has been home to many emperors until 1638 when the capital of India moved from Agra to Delhi. It is absolutely beautiful with loads of detailed carvings and incredible architecture. It also  had  some pretty superb views of the Taj Mahal. We even spotted a monkey too! We were told under no circumstances to look them in...
