Day 134- Goodbye Gili

Goodbye Gili

Today I said goodbye to the home I have created over the last 2 weeks. Sad is not even the word to describe how I’m feeling. After falling in love with Koh Tao I kept searching for another slice of paradise and I found that here.

In all my travels I have never found somewhere that I just felt like I fit. Somewhere that I fell in love with the people. Somewhere that I could be for a long period of time without being bored.

Originally I thought that I wouldn’t like Gili Trawangan, I thought it still might be too big and too busy but in fact it was the complete opposite. I have laughed non stop for the last 2 weeks. I found out that actually spending an evening playing drinking games and dancing like an idiot was right up my street. I dived my heart out and I made lifelong friends.

I have met some of the most incredible people of my life. My Gili Gits who will forever be in my heart. It’s rare that a group of weirdos come together and click in the way we did. What we shared was rare and magical. Without judgement we accepted each other and each of you impacted me in ways I did not expect.

Ravi- what can I say? The most modest person I have ever met. Such a way with words. You always knew how to make sure  that the conversation steered away from you and considered everyone else. You are hilarious and bought so much joy to my day.

Chloe- the most mature, incredible and smart 18 year old I have ever met. Your sense of self is so inspiring. You know who you are and what you want and one day you are going to get to exactly where you want to be.

Dane- the cat who has used all 9 lives plus. The life and soul of the party. You can always be relied on to bring the fun and craziness that we all love. But at the same time your life experience is admirable.

Blake- you really are my bro. You are one of the most intelligent and interesting people I have ever met. I could spend hours listening to you. I have never met someone who gets so freaked out by my teeth. Thank you for letting me spend hours freaking you out for my own entertainment.

Sarah- my girl... what can I say. You are the craziest, funniest but caring and genuine person I have ever met. You really embraced everything that Gili had to offer.

We all clicked instantly and I know for sure I will see each of you again.

To the team at mates place, Brenden, Andrew and Ryan. You guys made me feel so welcome and at home. Thank you for not disturbing me as I slept on beanbags and for constantly making sure everyone was ok. The balance of professionalism and fun is what makes mates one of the most special places. I mean really it’s the cats but I’ll give you guys some credit ;)

Lauren- girl... it’s just Gili things... see you soon chick! Thank you for my Gili education!

To my diving buddies, Dink, Wilma and Marc, thank you so much. Your patience, fun and kindness was so incredible. You guys were a great support network and I had the best dives of my life with you guys.

Joe- what do I say? Stay kind and smart! All I’m going to say is remember your promise of 1 new story and I will see you in just over a week!

My mother always says ‘some people are in your life for a season, some for a reason and some people are forever’. This is true for Gili, even if it was just a season or a reason or maybe some forever either way I will never forget the incredible memories I made here.

Gili- I will be back soon! For one last time, Cheers to bad decisions 🍻

An Update

Things over the last week have developed and happened really quickly. I am still trying to process how I feel. I will get round to calling everyone and talking to everyone but right now I am selfishly putting myself and my well-being (both mentally and physically first). On Tuesday I was informed I no longer had my job in Australia. This was the start of the collapse of my dream. A lot of people were in the same position and with the job market in Australia becoming more and more dire each day, thousands of people including Australians loosing their jobs, businesses shutting left right and centre as well as the daily reports that flights out of Australia were shutting down I was left with one option. I had to leave. At the time this did not feel like a choice. I knew I didn’t have the financial ability to support myself for the next 6 months, which is potentially how long it would have taken to restore any normality. I had enough money in Australia to buy a ticket home, which...

Bikinis, boat parties and first dates! 27.01.20- 02.02.20

In my effort to keep people updated more with my life I am going to try and write at least one post a week. No promises but here is my summary of the last week! Monday was a public holiday here in Australia which could mean only one thing... brunch and a day at the beach! Amanda and I decided to head on the ferry to Watson’s bay! Shamefully this is the first time that I had been on the ferry! It was absolutely beautiful seeing the city from the boat. The Sydney skyline is actually pretty spectacular.  We arrived at Watson bay and headed to the Watson bay hotel for a spot of brunch. It was delicious. Obviously it would not be brunch without cocktails. It was a day of sitting on the beach and soaking up the sun. Whilst we were there I had a hinge message. For those not in the know, hinge is a dating app. I haven’t dated anyone since leaving the UK but thought it would be fun whilst I am relatively settled in sydney. The message was from a guy called Dan, as...

Day 2- Don’t look the moneys in the eyes

An early train this morning meant a 5:30 wake up call. Feeling very groggy and tired we caught the train from Delhi to Agra. The train was pretty comfortable and actually on time! Due to the nippy morning even my bobble hat got some use! On the train we were served a breakfast which consisted of a biscuit, some vegetable croquet (we didn’t know the name of these however this is as similar as it gets back home). We also got some bread and lemon juice. It was basic but it filled the hole. The first stop in Agra was the Agra Fort. This was built in the late 1500s and is pretty substantial in size coming in at around 94 acres. The fort has been home to many emperors until 1638 when the capital of India moved from Agra to Delhi. It is absolutely beautiful with loads of detailed carvings and incredible architecture. It also  had  some pretty superb views of the Taj Mahal. We even spotted a monkey too! We were told under no circumstances to look them in...
