Day 146-151- Well, I am on a farm...

Day 146- Saturday So today was a travel day. I left the beautiful Sydney which reminded me so much of London to go to my new job! My new job is based around an hour outside of Dubbo which is a 6.5 hour train journey from Sydney. The journey went without a hitch. I must admit that as per usual I fell asleep for most of it. I arrived at the farm pretty late but enjoyed a pasta dinner before hitting the hay ready for an early start on Sunday morning. Day 147- Sunday Today marked my first day working. It’s been a while and I was a bit apprehensive. I absolutely hate the first few weeks of a new job. You feel so useless because you can’t just crack on. You are constantly asking questions and just feel like a general pain. I must admit my first day wasn’t too bad. I spent my day bottle feeding baby cows, cleaning up after the cows, cleaning the equipment and learning about cows. We got given some steaks and beef items which were from a cow that had passed away so of course th...

Days 143-145 Setting up a new life

So on Wednesday I landed in Sydney. I was immediately taken aback by how cold it felt. It was crazy cold. It was 7am and I had cleared customs and immigration on no sleep and was ready for a bed. Good news, I had a hostel booked! Bad news it was another 30 minutes on the train. I navigated my way around this new city in a complete daze. I had written this day off weeks ago. Realising that I would be getting in at early hours of the morning on no sleep would mean that it would be impossible to get out of bed and do anything touristy. I was also incredibly homesick. I was alone in a big city, had no idea what I was doing. I knew I needed to find work to support myself. It was all too much for one day. A day in bed was required. I woke up around midday and looked over to see two of my roommates looking at me. They were so friendly. Fernando and Seamus were so awesome to me. Whilst I was in my slump they made me laugh and feel included and like I belonged there. These two beautiful human...

Day 141 & 142 Goodbye Asia and Hello Australia

So on Monday I caught my flight back to Bali, leaving the beautiful Labuan Bajo behind! I wasn’t overly excited to go to Bali. Firstly because I just don’t love the places that I had been to on mainland Bali. Secondly because this signifies the end of my time in Asia.  I decided to head to Uluwatu as I hadn’t yet been there and had heard it was beautiful. I arrive and must admit the hostel was nice and social. Three of us decided to head to Single Fins beach bar to watch the sunset and it did not disappoint! The next day was my final day in Asia, I spent the whole day on the beach in the sunshine enjoying the relaxed vibe you find in Asia.  My flight to Sydney was at 10pm. Devastated was not even the word. I have loved my time in Asia more then I ever thought possible. Asia has shown me that the world is magical and people are kind. I have learnt that I am a stronger person mentally and physically then I thought. I have loved the chaos, the diso...

Day 139 & 140- The world is so beautiful and dreams do come true

Well today is another exciting day. I booked a 2 day 1 night boat trip a couple of weeks ago and today was the start day! This was all part of my plan to make my birthday as memorable as possible!  Our first stop was Rinca island. This is one of the two islands in the world where you can find Komodo Dragons. These beautiful creatures can grow to 5m in length. They are also incredible predators. The bacteria in their saliva is fatal to all mammals. Their tactic to hunt is to bite their pray and then follow them until their inevitable death. Arriving at the ranger station there were a group of dragons sitting in the shade. Like snakes and lizards they are cold blooded and tend to be less active during the day. They were absolutely stunning creatures. I’m not going to lie I found it hilarious the way that they walk. The ranger informed us they can reach speeds of 15-20kmh. We trekked around the island admiring the views of the ocean. The second stop was to a...

Day 138- it’s my birthday!

So today is my birthday. This is of course a special day in my calendar. Not only am I turning 25 (the quarter century mark), I am also now in my mid 20s instead of early 20s. This is also my first birthday away from home. I suspected that this would be a challenging day so I made sure that I organised something really fun. Today I will be diving off of the site of Komodo. I will be completing three dives off the north of Komodo. I am beyond excited. First dive of the day was Castle Rock. This was a crazy site. The currant was absolutely nuts. It was all around this one main pinnacle. This was a nice dive where we saw some beautiful sharks however the constant kicking against the currant was just exhausting. The second dive was Crystal Rock. Again the currant here was madness. We basically had to hold onto a rock about 20m underwater to watch the marine life playing in the currant. Again we were visited by some huge sharks. The last dive of the day w...

Day 135-137 life after Gili and exciting plans!

After leaving the beautiful Gili Islands I arrived in Lombok. This is another Indonesian island which is about the same size as Bali. Because I spent so long in Gili I only had one night here. Therefore how else do you spend your time. I decided to spend it reading a book on the beach. The beach was not as pristine as the Gilis. There was a lot of plastic and waste which was really heartbreaking. There were also a lot of kids selling bracelets and sarongs along the beach. I had heard great things about Lombok from other people but to be honest I didn’t really have enough time to explore. I was up early on the Wednesday to catch my flight. I was flying to Labuan Bajo which will be the final stop on my Asian adventure. Most people don’t know what or where Labuan Bajo is. If I were to say Komodo Dragons it may give you some indication. Labuan Bajo is west of the small island which is home to the Komodo Dragon. The flight was beyond stunning. It was a really small two...

Day 134- Goodbye Gili

Goodbye Gili Today I said goodbye to the home I have created over the last 2 weeks. Sad is not even the word to describe how I’m feeling. After falling in love with Koh Tao I kept searching for another slice of paradise and I found that here.  In all my travels I have never found somewhere that I just felt like I fit. Somewhere that I fell in love with the people. Somewhere that I could be for a long period of time without being bored.  Originally I thought that I wouldn’t like Gili Trawangan, I thought it still might be too big and too busy but in fact it was the complete opposite. I have laughed non stop for the last 2 weeks. I found out that actually spending an evening playing drinking games and dancing like an idiot was right up my street. I dived my heart out and I made lifelong friends. I have met some of the most incredible people of my life. My Gili Gits who will forever be in my heart. It’s rare that a group of weirdos come together and click in the...
