Today we decided to wake up earlyish (7am) to make the most of the cooler hours of the day as we wanted to do a hike in the national park. The national park is on the north west side of the island. There were a couple of hikes available to us however we chose to do the hike that led to the Kerachut Beach. It was a steep climb over the hillside but was absolutely beautiful. The trees and plants were a stunning shade of green, there were crystal clear waterfalls and we even spotted a few beautiful lizards and butterflies.

At the bottom of the hill we were surprised by a meromicitic lake (this is a lake where fresh and sea water form in two separate layers which do not mix).
This then lead us onto a beautiful beach which was so quiet. On the beach was a conservation centre for turtles. The conservation centre takes the turtle eggs and incubates them at optimum temperature in a hatchery before releasing them into the wild.
After our stop at this beach we took a taxi boat to what is known as ‘Monkey beach’. There were obviously some very cute but cheeky monkeys who were ripping open bags and swinging around the trees.
After this very sweaty but fairly easy hike we got ourselves back to the hostel where I showered, changed and packed as I am on an overnight bus to the Perhentian Islands to try out some Malaysian diving!
In Penang I stayed at the Drippin’ Dragon hostel. It was a really nice hostel with clean rooms, showers, toilets and a nice common room. The staff are super friendly and the pool was a nice bonus! I was lucky enough to meet some lovely people who made my time in Penang an absolute blast! Thank you to this lovely lot for a great few days!
I have a new rule with travelling which is basically never to say goodbye. Somehow is this big world you seem to bump into the same people again! I’m hoping this is the case here!
