After an uneventful roach infested overnight train it was a further 4 hours from Hanoi down to Ha Long. The name Ha Long means descending dragon. This originated from a legend where when the country was under attack a dragon descended here. It is a stunning coastal city. It has been twice awarded with the UNESCO heritage status. Once in 1994 and secondly in 2000.
We took a boat ride out to appreciate some of the 2000 islands surrounding Ha Long. This includes the same island that Top Gear visited. On route we witnessed the kissing rocks which are two islands that from afar appear to be touching.
After a slap up lunch of seafood we visited the heavenly cave which was discovered by a fisherman in 1993. The insides were absolutely stunning with the different formations which have been caused over thousands of
years.
