Day 62- Longtail boats and Khao San Road

After our overnight train we arrived at 6am in Bangkok. I must admit I did not get the best nights sleep. I was hot and cold and the bed was not exactly the comfiest. But despite this it got us here safely and on time! After dropping our bags and grabbing some food we decided to hire a private longtail boat. We cruised around Bangkok travelling through the canals looking at all the sites. This included temples, forts, stunning buildings and floating markets.  L After our river cruise we decided it would be rude to not go for a massage in Thailand. It was exactly what was needed after the trekking and overnight train.  Of course followed by getting my nails done!  This evening we headed out to the famous Khao San Road!   Although I have had a great day today is a hard day. It is Mother’s Day in the UK. I miss my mum everyday. She is my biggest fan and my biggest inspiration. I love her so much. I would no...

Day 60 & 61 Bamboo Rafting, Call me Gordon and another overnight train

Day 60- Bamboo Raft and Call me Gordon!  This morning I woke up after having the best nights sleep!  We started our final trek. This one only being for an hour. It was so sad to leave the village after an amazing night there!  On the way to the river we saw loads of spiders. All moving and climbing over each other. You can see the movement in the video below. It was crazy. Arriving at the river we then hopped on our bamboo rafts for a ride up the river. We even saw an elephant on the way!  In the afternoon I attended a cooking class. I must admit I surprised myself! As a  very below average cook the fact that everything was edible and I didn’t burn anything is a miracle. Just call me Gordon Ramsey.  Pad Thai  Green Curry  Spring Rolls  Chicken with Hot Basil Leaves Day 61- Another Overnight train!  This morning was a late start. We have had a really hec...

Day 58 and 59- Village Life

Day 58 Today started with a visit to a local market where locals go to buy all their food. They had everything from fruit, vegetables and meat to household items like soap.  I tried jackfruit for the first time. It tasted like apple and peach with a hard mango texture. It was delicious.  I then tried something not so delicious... a slow worm. After this we drove to another waterfall. The waterfall was called Mok Fah. These are my new favourite things. This was so refreshing and cool in the Thai heat.  We had a quick lunch of soup, chicken and fried rice we went off for our trek.  We trekked through the jungle for about 3 hours. It was exhausting but so beautiful. There was a lot of up and down. It was very slippery.  We arrived at the small village of Mae Jok. It is a traditional village with 50 families and about 250 people. They have their own language and culture ...

Day 57- Temples, chill time and more local food!

Today was another quite chilled day.  We started with a brief walk to look at a Buddhist temple. It was a really beautiful temple right in the centre of the town. The monks at this temple alongside other artists make carvings out of aluminium which they sell to the general public and use for the temple. The pieces were stunning and quite elaborate. By this point the temperature had risen to around 34 degrees and we opted to not go and see anymore temples. Instead we took a pick up truck bus to the shopping centre. This was a standard western shopping centre with all the sports brands and Starbucks. It was so strange being in this environment. It was very different to the local markets we have become accustomed to. After this we decided to head back to the hotel to utilise the swimming pool.  In the evening we went to a different street market where I tried a local dish- chicken Khao Soi. It was absolutely delicious.  I also t...
