This morning we set off on our travels to Kandy. On the way we stopped at a spice plantation.
The spice garden where they grew items like ginger, vanilla, cocoa, tumeric, aloe Vera, cardamom, peppercorns and cinnamon. They talked us through the different uses for all these plants including both in foods and also medicinal purposes.
I learnt that there is such thing as a red pineapple. Who knew? This is used for medicinal purposes and is not eaten as it’s not as nice
There are also four different types of peppercorn; green, white, black and red. They are all grown on the same tree and the colour depends on the stage at which the peppercorns are picked.
After this we finished the journey to Kandy. Kandy is a large city in the central provance. It lies in the midst of the hills in the Kandy Plateau.
We went for a lunch in a local restaurant where we tried curry and rice. It was really spicy but really delicious!
We intended to explore the city a little bit more but it started raining. Not just a little bit of rain but more a torrential downpour. So instead we settled for some cake.
