Day 1- Trying not to get hit by a car in Delhi

I did not realise before today how difficult it could be to cross a road. I have managed the super wide roads in America where you have to run and the busy streets of London. Delhi however is something else.

After getting onto my flight last night at 8 I managed to half sleep through the night all the time just wishing I was at home in my bed. Before Delhi was a stopover of two hours in Muscat. Flying over Muscat I was honestly gutted that I didn’t plan a stop there. It looks stunning from the air! At Muscat they asked for my Visa information which I handed over. Little did I know that they needed to see the visa email that goes alongside the visa document, I had not printed this... I therefore spent £40 on data to load this email up. Brilliant. Lesson learnt # 1- PRINT THE EMAILS WITH THE VISAS.

Landing in Delhi and it was not as chaotic as I had anticipated. No long lines, just a bit of a faff to try and find a transfer but nothing too difficult.

After a long night and morning travelling I arrived at my accommodation, got dressed and headed out and about to see the sites. Unfortunately it was a bit of a slow day where I tried to get my head round where everything is and also just tried to plough through the mixed emotions of excitement but also double guessing myself and asking myself if I had made the right choice. I am still not sure how I feel!

I did however take a ride on a tuk tuk on the advice of one of the hotel employees. I had attempted to walk but it was just ridiculous and I thought better then to die trying on day 1. Three seems to be no rules to the road and just a lot of beeping. I surprisingly felt much safer in the tuk tuk than on the pavements! I saw a really pretty temple. He did tell me about it however in my tired state I must admit not too much stuck!

I also went and had a look at a handy craft market which was not what I expected. They were really funny about taking pictures in there so unfortunately you will just have to imagine a three story department shop with loads of little rooms each containing different items. It was all beautiful stuff however I quickly left when someone tried to sell me a tea towel for 5000 rupees (approx £50).

Dinner tonight was nice, we went to a lovely little traditional restaurant called ‘kitchen with a cause’. They help people get experience and skills in the restaurant business. Everything from front of house management to the kitchen. The food was amazing. I had a lovely Mutton Rarr. Which was basically a goat curry with a garlic nann. Would highly recommend.

It is a shame I only had a day in Delhi as there is so much to see. It might be somewhere I have to put on the list to come back to!

Now off to bed ready for a lovely 4:30 wake up call as I leave Delhi to go to Agra to see the Taj Mahal.

An Update

Things over the last week have developed and happened really quickly. I am still trying to process how I feel. I will get round to calling everyone and talking to everyone but right now I am selfishly putting myself and my well-being (both mentally and physically first). On Tuesday I was informed I no longer had my job in Australia. This was the start of the collapse of my dream. A lot of people were in the same position and with the job market in Australia becoming more and more dire each day, thousands of people including Australians loosing their jobs, businesses shutting left right and centre as well as the daily reports that flights out of Australia were shutting down I was left with one option. I had to leave. At the time this did not feel like a choice. I knew I didn’t have the financial ability to support myself for the next 6 months, which is potentially how long it would have taken to restore any normality. I had enough money in Australia to buy a ticket home, which...

Bikinis, boat parties and first dates! 27.01.20- 02.02.20

In my effort to keep people updated more with my life I am going to try and write at least one post a week. No promises but here is my summary of the last week! Monday was a public holiday here in Australia which could mean only one thing... brunch and a day at the beach! Amanda and I decided to head on the ferry to Watson’s bay! Shamefully this is the first time that I had been on the ferry! It was absolutely beautiful seeing the city from the boat. The Sydney skyline is actually pretty spectacular.  We arrived at Watson bay and headed to the Watson bay hotel for a spot of brunch. It was delicious. Obviously it would not be brunch without cocktails. It was a day of sitting on the beach and soaking up the sun. Whilst we were there I had a hinge message. For those not in the know, hinge is a dating app. I haven’t dated anyone since leaving the UK but thought it would be fun whilst I am relatively settled in sydney. The message was from a guy called Dan, as...

Day 2- Don’t look the moneys in the eyes

An early train this morning meant a 5:30 wake up call. Feeling very groggy and tired we caught the train from Delhi to Agra. The train was pretty comfortable and actually on time! Due to the nippy morning even my bobble hat got some use! On the train we were served a breakfast which consisted of a biscuit, some vegetable croquet (we didn’t know the name of these however this is as similar as it gets back home). We also got some bread and lemon juice. It was basic but it filled the hole. The first stop in Agra was the Agra Fort. This was built in the late 1500s and is pretty substantial in size coming in at around 94 acres. The fort has been home to many emperors until 1638 when the capital of India moved from Agra to Delhi. It is absolutely beautiful with loads of detailed carvings and incredible architecture. It also  had  some pretty superb views of the Taj Mahal. We even spotted a monkey too! We were told under no circumstances to look them in...
