Day 132 & 133- don’t overdo it kids!

So guess who overdid it and has spent a day and a half in bed! On Sunday I slept flat out, only leaving to go to the ATM, not even leaving for food because luckily my hostel offers a pizza delivery service. I think it was a combination of exhaustion and just not looking after myself. My diet has not exactly been healthy. There have been a few late nights and many early days to dive. Sometimes it’s important to give yourself a break and just chill out for a bit.   On Monday I was feeling slightly better so of course that meant going to watch sunset, have some drinks and dance until the club closes! A perfect end to my time in Gili Trawangan. On Tuesday I travel to Lombok where I catch my flight on Wednesday to start the final part of my Indonesian adventure seeing the Komodo Dragons.

Day 131- Because this is important

Day 131 Today is my last day diving! I originally was not supposed to dive today however as it is worlds ocean day I could not pass up the opportunity to take part in a clean up dive.  The dive was organised in partnership with Gili Eco Trust with the objective being to try and collect as much plastic and waste from the ocean as possible. For years we have been ruining our oceans by carelessly disposing of waste in ways in which they end up in the ocean. The plastics in the ocean is a particular problem. Plastic is not biodegradable and contains a lot of hazardous properties. This is then ingested by the marine life. This threatens the existence of marine life under water in many ways. It is predicted that around 100,000 marine mammals are killed each year due to plastic ingestion, this includes turtles, whales and sharks. It is not only waste that is ingested but plastic nets can also tangle marine mammals causing them to be injured so that they can no longer hunt....

Day 127- 130 Seahorses and Sharks

Day 127- Tuesday  Today was a really awesome day off. I sat around and did nothing. Diving can take it out of you and I really feel like I have embraced the island lifestyle. The days all blur into one and there is absolutely no pressure to do anything.  Day 128- Wednesday  Today’s diving was pretty freaking awesome. In the morning we went to Bonty wreck. This is a sunken platform just off of Gili Meno. It is an awesome spot with corals growing all over. Also home to scorpion fish, stone fish and turtles. The afternoon was Deep turbo. This was my second time at this dive site. The current here is ridiculous. I’m still not used to diving in current which literally drags you along. It doesn’t really give you much time to stop and look around. But there was still a turtle. The Gilis are completely turtle island. It is absolutely incredible how many there are. Makes me so happy to see them all.  Day 129- Thursday  Another Day off meant anot...

Day 124 - 126 I have been a bit busy

Day 124 It was another day diving and I loved it. We started by diving in Sea horse bay. This was a shallow dive where we were looking through the sandy bottom to see what marine life was down there. There wasn’t much in the way of coral but there were seahorses and pipe fish. It was a nice easy dive. When we were getting back onto the boat we also spotted a turtle. It was beautiful. The second dive was at manta point. This was a nice site. We saw a turtle, white tip shark and a lion fish. It was pretty cool. Day 125 Sunday was a pretty chill day. We all spent some time just  walking around the island. Watching a sunset and chilling by the pool. It was pretty chill. It was absolutely perfect. Day 126 Monday was another two dive day. These dives were spectacular and over 60 minutes long. It was freaking awesome. The first dive was Hans Reef. This is a beautiful reef with turtles, scorpion fish, renopais and lion fish! The s...

Day 122 & 123 I am the luckiest girl in the world

Day 122 So today was another chill day. I rented a bicycle and cycled around the island. On my journey I noticed about 40 goats chilling on the beach.  Apart from this I literally spent the whole day sitting on the beach and the evening at the bar. It was awesome Day 123 I absolutely refuse to believe anyone who disagrees that I am the luckiest human on this planet. I started diving today. My first dive was at Deep Turbo. This dive site was about 20m deep and had some insane currant. It washed us along and we barely had to move. This is where I saw my first turtle in Gili T. It was an incredible dive site with a tonne of coral and so many fish. It was so beautiful. My second dive of the day was even better than the first. We went to shark point where again there was  hectic currant. I did however see two sharks, one black tip reef shark from about 15m away which was about 1.5m long. T he second shark was a little baby  white tip reef shar...

Day 120 & 121 Hello island life

So the last two days have been a bit of a blur and have flown by so quick! I arrived in the Gilis and checked into my hostel. I basically spent the last two days chilling by the pool or on the beach. I have enjoyed two beautiful sunsets and just meeting new people!  Gili Trawangan so far has been much more my sort of vibe. It’s a small island off of the coast of Lombok. It is small enough to walk from one side to the other in about 30 minutes. It is also an island with no cars or scooters. The only way to get around is by pushbike or walking. I rented a bike and had such a great time exploring.  I have been in kind of a weird mood the last few days. I have been seriously burnt out recently so I really feel like these three days of relaxing and allowing myself to stop have been amazing. I am going to try and explain how I feel but please stay with me. I really don’t want to sound ungrateful and I love that I have the opportunity to travel. I have honestly had th...

Day 119- oh Nusa Penida, you are undeniably beautiful

I met two people in the hostel and we decided to rent a car and driver to take us to Kelingking Beach and broken beach. We had heard the road conditions were bad so a scooter and driver would not have been a safe option. We hopped in at about 10:30 to take the 45 minute journey.   At 11 we hear the hissing sound that can only mean one thing... a flat tyre... we pull over and our driver quickly hops out to remove the tyre which is as flat as a pancake. But it’s ok because the car has a spare. We remove the cover for the spare to discover this is also flat. This is the start of a long hour long wait for the tyre. This is not really a surprise... but hey! we sat by the side of the road blasting out tunes and enjoying the warmth! Once we eventually got going we headed towards broken beach. The road was horrendous. Even in a car we were bouncing all over the place. It was not comfortable and I felt so bad watching the people on scooters who looked like they wanted to cry goi...
