Day 87- Secluded Beaches

Today was a beach day and it was amazing! We went to a secluded little beach called ‘Skull beach’. It was completely untouched with very few tourists. We sat on the beach, read books, listened to music and of course went swimming. After this we walked to a local waterfall. This is supposed to be the tallest waterfall in Langkawi. However after reaching the falls after about a 40 minute walk we realised that it is dry season and this is the result... After the dry waterfall we tried to head back to the hostel however there were no taxis willing to pick us up. Instead we hitched a ride with a really nice mother and daughter who were on their holidays. They wanted to head to a beach called Black Sand beach before going home. We were so grateful for their help so if course we were more than happy to stop. The result was stunning! From here we managed to get a taxi back to our hostel!

Day 86- Malaysian Public Transport

It was another day of travel here! The aim was to get to Langkawi which is an island just off the north of Malaysia. I started with a grab to the station. Grab us basically the same as Uber. It was straightforward and easy to use and my driver was polite. Then at KL Sentral I had to find the company which was running my train. This wasn’t as easy as I hoped as evrrytime I got to a counter I was pointed in another direction. Eventually however I found the counter and got my ticket sorted. The train was about 5 hours taking me from Kuala Lumpur to Alor Setar. It was freezing. No exaggeration but this train was unbearably cold. I was in my jumper shivering the whole way.  Getting off the train it was lovely and warm. I walked to get a local bus instead of paying the extortionate amount of money that a taxi wanted to get to the ferry port which was only 13km away.  Taxi- MYR45- £8.42 Bus- MYR1.70- £0.31 The bus was not air conditioned but all the windows ...

Day 85- Rainbow stairs and beautiful views

It was another jam packed day in Kuala Lumpur. Luckily for us the sun was shining and it was a beautiful day! We started our day by visiting Sri Mahamariamman. This is the oldest Hindu Temple in Kuala Lumpur established in 1873. In 1968 a new structure was built which includes the beautiful Raja Gopuram tower. This really is something. The detail is incredible.  After seeing the beautiful Sri Mahamariamman temple we moved on to look around China town. It was pretty early and the stalls were just setting up but it was still pretty cool with all the lanterns. It’s definitely on my list to visit it in the evening when I come back to KL.  The final visit of the morning was to the National Mosque. This is a modern building which was opened in 1965. It has a very 60’s Art Deco vibe. The mosque was built to celebrate Malaysia’s independence from the British government which happened in 1957. In 1987 the mosque  underwent renovation work which included replacin...

Day 84- Helipads and Tall towers

Today started with a morning flight from Phuket to Kuala Lumpur. I must admit I was very excited to be getting to Malaysia although sad to leave Thailand. Thailand as we are all now aware had become a second home but hey, you have to try new things! Upon arrival to Kuala Lumpar I was surprised to breeze through immigration without any issues. I picked up my bag and made it to the bus station with ease.  The bus took about an hour and by this point I was a bit tired and grumpy.  When arriving at my hostel I met a really nice guy called Daniel who is from Canada. We decided to take a trip to the Eco Forrest which is the only remaining stretch of rainforest within the city limits of KL. There is a total of 9 hectares of forest with a 200m canopy walk above for visitors to use. It is beautiful walking around in the green even if it was raining. After this we went and had a browse at the outside of the KL tower. It was a bit of a miserable day outside and ...

Day 82 & 83- it is not goodbye but instead, Thailand, I will see you very soon

Day 82- A literal day of nothing Today was another chilled out day. I spent my day by the pool just chilling out. It’s amazing on the islands how quick time flys.  I literally moved from my bed to the on-site restaurant, to the pool and back to restaurant and then to bed.  Today was my last day on the islands. Tomorrow I travel far from Koh Phanghan to Phuket which I am not really looking forward to. It’s going to be a long day of ferry and bus travel. Day 83- Thailand, thank you and see you very soon Today was the start of my journey to Malaysia. Today I have to travel to Phuket. This includes a 2.5 hour ferry ride to Donsak Pier in Stuart Thani before hopping on about a 4/5 hour bus journey to Phuket. I had intended to get over to Phuket to explore the city and surrounding islands however I kind of got stuck in Koh Tao so I will have to come back for this. Before we get to my thailand highlights here are some fun facts about Thailand! Social t...
