Day 4- Does anyone else have a monkey protector?

Today was incredible! We opted to go to the Monkey temple. To get to the temple you have to get up to the top of a hill which provided amazing views of Jaipur. This temple was built within the Aravalli Hills. It dates back to around the 15th century and is a popular Hindu retreat.  Within and around the temple there are an abundance of monkeys. We opted to have a monkey protector- Ravi who was able to show us how to handle the monkeys as well as keep them from misbehaving. The monkeys are used to people and love anyone who is holding food. They ate peanuts and grass from our hands.  After the monkey temple we went into the old town to head to the market. We tried out our bartering skills and managed to get some items down by between 30-50% which we were pretty happy with. The market itself sold everything you could ever need from household items such as cookware to the most beautiful saris and fabric. The market was full of bri...

Day 3- Samosas in a movie theatre

This morning was a little uneventful. We took a bus from Agra to Jaipur. This took about 5 hours. We passed through the country side and saw lots of animals and villages. Upon arrival in Jaipur we had some lunch at our accommodation and then headed into the centre to see a Bollywood movie. The cinema is called Raj Mandir. It has been rated number 3 by CNN travel in the category of worlds most enjoyable movie theatres. The actual cinema itself really stood out! The inside was not what I expected. The movie we went to see was called Manikarnika and was about the first revolt of independence in India.  The protagonist was the queen of Jhansi was a major figure during the first revolt.  For movie snacks I chose  a samosa. Very different from the traditional popcorn!   We then went to have a look at the Royal Albert Hall Museum. Again this was stunning! We were really lucky to go and see it at night!  To end the day we went...

Day 2- Don’t look the moneys in the eyes

An early train this morning meant a 5:30 wake up call. Feeling very groggy and tired we caught the train from Delhi to Agra. The train was pretty comfortable and actually on time! Due to the nippy morning even my bobble hat got some use! On the train we were served a breakfast which consisted of a biscuit, some vegetable croquet (we didn’t know the name of these however this is as similar as it gets back home). We also got some bread and lemon juice. It was basic but it filled the hole. The first stop in Agra was the Agra Fort. This was built in the late 1500s and is pretty substantial in size coming in at around 94 acres. The fort has been home to many emperors until 1638 when the capital of India moved from Agra to Delhi. It is absolutely beautiful with loads of detailed carvings and incredible architecture. It also  had  some pretty superb views of the Taj Mahal. We even spotted a monkey too! We were told under no circumstances to look them in...

Day 1- Trying not to get hit by a car in Delhi

I did not realise before today how difficult it could be to cross a road. I have managed the super wide roads in America where you have to run and the busy streets of London. Delhi however is something else. After getting onto my flight last night at 8 I managed to half sleep through the night all the time just wishing I was at home in my bed. Before Delhi was a stopover of two hours in Muscat. Flying over Muscat I was honestly gutted that I didn’t plan a stop there. It looks stunning from the air! At Muscat they asked for my Visa information which I handed over. Little did I know that they needed to see the visa email that goes alongside the visa document, I had not printed this... I therefore spent £40 on data to load this email up. Brilliant. Lesson learnt # 1- PRINT THE EMAILS WITH THE VISAS. Landing in Delhi and it was not as chaotic as I had anticipated. No long lines, just a bit of a faff to try and find a transfer but nothing too difficult. After a long night and morning...

Today is the day

I am currently sat in a pub at Heathrow airport waiting for my flight. The flight leaves at 08:05 to head to Muscat where I change to get to Delhi.  I should land in muscat at 3am UK time and reach India by 8ish UK time. People keep asking how I feel and the honest answer is I don’t really know. It’s all a bit weird. I am feeling an emotion I have never felt before but I am strangely calm. Obviously the family goodbyes weren’t fun and were really sad but I had a lovely send off! It actually doesn’t feel quite real that I am leaving just yet. I don’t know when that feeling will hit but I will let you all know! Because I have not left the country just yet unfortunately I have no interesting pictures however I do have a picture of me with my backpacks on. I have spoilt myself and gone for two backpacks. One of which is a daypack and the other contains my whole life. My bigger backpack came in at a weight of 11kg. This is all I will have for the next however long it takes for me to...

About me

My name is Faye Dasi-Sutton. I am 24 years old. I have worked in construction/ manufacturing for the last 4 years which I thoroughly enjoyed. 2018 was a rough year so I made the decision to get on a plane and fly around the world for a bit. I am naturally a bit of a control freak, I am also incredibly organised. Some would say to the point that I am maybe too much of a control freak and too organised. I would also describe myself as reasonably funny (not always, just sometimes). It got to a point where I figured that I had never really spent any time alone, like truly alone. I never moved out and I never went away on my own. All these things lead me to thinking that maybe going to see the world might help me figure it all out. It was also the suggestion of my father who is pleased he is getting his driveway back. I am setting off on the 27th January and I have a rough plan of places I will be going. India Sri Lanka Cambodia  Vietnam Laos Thailand Singapore  ...
